"We fear change"

As a baseball purist, if feel that I can speak for all of us in saying that, "We fear change." We like the relative stability of game of baseball, its history and traditions, and it association with pastoral values of American society. With that being said, I'm sad to see that the Cincinnati Reds are coming closer and closer to shifting their Spring Training facility to Arizona. The westward shift in the geography of MLB spring training facilities not only reflects the shift in U.S. population but also a continual shift away from the traditions of baseball that fans have witnessed under Bud Selig. Owners love Bud, so they have extended his contract for three more years. True baseball fans, like Sister Daedalus and myself, see this as three more years for him to continue to build baseball as a business and further run baseball's traditions into the ground.

Here's a link to a nice post by ShysterBall on the Reds' Eric Davis - "The Most Exciting Baseball Player I've Ever Seen." Shyster says Davis played with "reckless abandon." That's exactly how it should be... The way Pete used to play! ... yet another issue that Bud and I disagree on.
