Sometimes all the pieces align for a great win (or to form a Voltron). Yesterday was one of those days for the Reds. After losing 0-3 to the Cubs on Tuesday (a rare game at GABP with no homeruns) the Redlegs put together some day game dominance for a 9-0 victory on Wednesday. Edinson Volquez supplied the pitching and struck out 10. His 1.04 ERA is best in the NL and second best in baseball. The offense came from a variety of sources; the Reds had 7 homers. Three of those homeruns came off the bat of Joey Votto (Home Run Derby's pick of the day).
GABP was filled with its third-largest crowd of the year for the dual performances of V-squared (28,418). They also witnessed Mr. Redlegs lose his head. It love to see so many people come out for a mid-week day game. Seeing something like this reminds me that there is still some good in the world and people that value one of the great traditions of the game, day baseball. It also tells me that there are still people who have their priorities straight and skip out on work, cut class, et cetera to see a baseball game.
