Bay day is here

Pirates fans have forecasted this day for a couple of years now - Jason Bay has been traded. Interesting enough his exit from Pittsburgh came as part of the deal that ended Manny Ramirez's tenure in Boston. Manny goes to the Dodgers, Bay will join (NY Yankee) Xavier Nady in the AL East as a member of the Red Sox. The Buccos get Brandon Moss, Craig Hansen, Andy LaRoche and Avery Bryan Morris. LaRoche seems to be a quality-hitting 3B and was the Dodgers starter before getting injured very early in the season. Andy is also the brother of current Pirate Adam LaRoche. I hadn't heard of Moss but after reading his bio on Bucs Trade Winds, I like him already:
Athletic outfielder with a very strong arm. Excellent approach at the plate - good swing with a refined power and on base ability. Hits to all fields. Slightly above average speed for a right fielder. Solid in the field. Tough competitor. Fantastic teammate and individual who takes joy in playing the game. Moss possesses a good mental approach to the game, able to evaluate his mistakes while still not harping on them. Moss began a transition to becoming a part-time 1B in late 2007, and he's handled it rather smoothly.

I'm trying to be optimistic here... hopefully this works out in the Pirates favor. I like WHYGAVS' spin on it:
It's also important to look at aspects beyond the trade. The truth is, we're out from underneath a lot of money that would've gone to him. If we use that money to make sure Alvarez signs, sign Robby Grossman, maybe one more high upside pick from this year, and another pick or two next year, then we get to add all of them to the minor league system, as well. They're not direct results of the trade, but they're indirect acquisitions as well.
