Thoughts on CC Sabathia, Cy Young Awards, and MVPs

Tonight, in a game versus the Pirates, CC Sabathia will make a second start on three days rest. First of all, I'm not a pitch-count guy, I think it's wimpy. I think it is fairly obvious, however, that the Brewers don't plan on pursuing Sabathia in the future (or even care about his future) considering the workload that they have been putting on him lately. He looks tired and I suspect he is. He'll probably end up hurting himself.

Secondly, I understand that CC has been good since he came over from the Cleveland Indians, but I can't believe that some people consider him a candidate for the NL Cy Young Award. Last time I checked there were 162 games in a season.

The same goes for people that think Manny Ramirez (known locally here at BCB as "Manno the Clown") should be considered for the NL MVP. He "played" half of the season in the AL! The real MVP of the senior circuit is Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals. Albert, unfortunately, is often taken for granted. He has been one of the (if not THE) best player(s) in baseball since 2001 and people just expect him to be that year in and year out without awarding him for it. Pujols has won one MVP Award, that was in 2005.

Saw CC pitch in Cincy Saturday. He IS tired. Hope they don't ruin such a good arm. He's a class act.

Good points, especially on CC. He was nurtured and brought along in his career in Cleveland, only to be exploited in Milwaukee as they "rent" him for their playoff run. He pitched more innings for the Indians in 2007 than he ever did but never on short rest or with his health in jeopardy.
