Ken Griffey Jr. has a new job. Grif has been named American Public Diplomacy Envoy by Condoleezza Rice. Junior will travel abroad in attempt to boost public image of the United States. Cal Ripken Jr. has also held this position.
I have two questions... 1) Does this mean that Junior isn't actively seeking a baseball job for 2009 or... 1b) no one is interested in his services? 2) I know Cal and Grif are nice guys and great representatives for the game of baseball and the United States of America, but why not send someone like John Rocker out on a diplomatic mission? Such duties would be a great chance for him to promote his "Speak English" initiative.

Baseball loses another voice
Baseball has lost another voice, long-time Cleveland Indians broadcaster, Herb Score. He called Tribe games for 34 years ending in 1997.
Baseball has lost so many great broadcasters over the past year. Less than a year ago, I woke up to hear that one of the voices of my childhood, Joe Nuxhall, had passed away. The Atlanta Braves lost Skip Caray back in August. Pete Van Wieren, also of the Braves, retired last month as did Lanny Frattare after 33 seasons behind the Pittsburgh Pirates' microphone.
