Ichiro pays his respects to Sisler

While in St. Louis for the All-Star Game, Ichiro Suzuki took the opportunity to pay his respects to George Sisler by visiting his grave at Des Peres Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Ichiro broke Sisler's single-season hits record of 257 in 2004.
"I wanted to do that for a grand upperclassman of the baseball world," Ichiro told MLB.com.
"I think it's only natural for someone to want to do that, to express my feelings in that way." "There's not many chances to come to St. Louis," Ichiro said, according to the Seattle Times. "In 2004, it was the first time I crossed paths with him, and his family generously came all the way to Seattle."

What a classy move by Ichiro. I hope to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame one day.

That's an amazing tale. Ichiro may have just become my favorite non-Brave player in the league. I mean, we hear all time about guys meeting with older players, but it usually seems to be initiated by the older player. For Ichiro to go in search of Sisler's grave is an incredible gesture of respect. I can't really think of a parallel from a player playing to a former player.
