The Superbowl is this weekend and I'm really getting anxious for Spring Training to start. These combined circumstances led me to ask myself this question: Who is baseball's version of Troy Polamalu?
Polamalu is one of my favorite football players because he plays with reckless abandon while on the field but off the field he is a very quite, unassuming, and family-oriented person.
My pick... Grady Sizemore. Like Polamalu, Sizemore carries himself well and plays the game hard. Both also possess the rare combination of speed and power.

Sizemore is Baseball's Version of Troy Polamalu
The outlook on Adam Dunn: A lot of fishing
Adam Dunn is seeking a four-year contract worth somewhere around $56 million. My guess is that Dunn will be doing a lot of fishing this summer unless he lowers his asking price.
On WLW today, Marty Brennaman said that Dunn will likely have to settle for about a third of his $14 mil/yr asking price. Marty was exaggerating, at least I think, but we all know that he doesn't like Dunn. I do agree with one comment that Marty had. Apparently, Dunn said that he is currently in the best shape of this career. Well... to me, this statement means that he has been "cheating" the Reds and fans out of a lot of money for the past few years if he hasn't been trying his hardest to be in top playing condition.

Even more reason to root for Chris Dickerson
I'm a big Chris Dickerson fan. He plays hard, has a lot of tools, and seems like a genuinely nice and down-to-earth guy. During the kids Q&A session at RedsFest, a kid asked the players on stage, "What's the best thing that you have ever bought?" Most of the players said things like cars and houses. Dickerson replied with, "my Chuck Taylors" That's a guy that knows about the little things in life.
Now, after reading Hal McCoy's latest post, I have even more reason to root for him. Apparently during a caravan stop in Evansville (IN), two guys, back-to-back, asked Dusty about the Reds' lack of a solid left fielder. Dickerson was sitting right there on stage with Dusty.
Everyone has the right to speak their mind and ask the questions that they want answered, however, have a little human decency - Chris Dickerson is sitting right there. I know that sometimes we view players as rich, entertainers, but they're also human beings. He's young, he hustles, give him a chance.
Here is Dickerson's reply to Hal: “I could take it two ways. I could get upset or I could say, ‘OK, you two guys, I’ll be back in the gym (today) hitting and those comments will be the only things in my head.’ I’ll prove ‘em wrong.”
That's class and that's the starting left fielder for your 2009 Cincinnati Reds.

Quick snippets of Redlegs news
Former Red and BCB favorite Sean Casey is officially retiring. He will join Barry Larkin on the MLB Network. No doubt that the Mayor loves to talk so I think he will do great.
My wife and I just got back from a weekend roadtrip, spanning three states, catching all three legs of the Reds caravan. Yesterday, we caught stops in Indianapolis, IN and Lima, OH. Today we went to the stop in Maysville, KY. I got everyone on the caravan to sign a single baseball and asked Billy Hatcher to sign the sweet spot while in Lima. In addition to the ball, we had our photos taken with several of the players and broadcasters at RedsFest this year, and we had those autographed. You might think that it's odd for us to travel so much for such a thing. However, I know of at least one other couple who did the same thing. We saw them at each of the three stops. I also saw a father and son in Maysville today who were in Lima last night. It's good to know that we aren't alone in our fanaticism.
